Does overclocking your card only affect your graphics when your card reached 100% load? Or does it make a difference even at 50% load?

Pretty much. If your GPU usage is below 100% load...say 90% usage, overclock the core clock would probably make the GPU usage drop to 85% or something like that, while frame rate remain unchanged. This is because in those scenerio it is the CPU that's the bottleneck. But overclocking the memory clock "may" help with the frame rate a little, even if GPU is not under 100% load...I'm not 100% certain about this though.
