Hey guys,

Today I decided to change the coolant in my PC as it had been about a year since I last did it, anyway I drained the system, ended up moving the sound card to another slot but apart from that and the new coolant nothing has changed.

Anyway after leak testing for several hours and having no leaks or problems I decided to see if it would boot.

After pushing the power button the fans spin up and the debug LED displays "19" which according to the manual has something to do with the southbridge starting up....No display output at all.

I've tried with various memory configs, removing the SSD's, DVD drive ETC...

Tried clearing the CMOS but still no luck.

Here's the specs

Asrock Extreme 9 X79
Creative 3Di soundblaster (?)
2 x HD7950's Watercooled
Core i7 3930K Watercooled
2 x Sandisk Extreme 120GB SSD's
4 x 4GB Samsung Green Eco RAM
Seasonic 860W platinum

Any idea's guys?

tried reaseating the ram? and loosening the cpu cooler/block slightly?

battery left out for 30 minutes for cmos clear?

Well I tried clearing the CMOS (left the battery out for over 30 minutes) but still no joy.

Tried with just one RAM stick in and alternated that one stick with others but nothing worked.

Also tried removing the LAN/Sound card but no joy, then tried using a HD5450 in the bottom PCI-E lane but that didn't help.

Tried booting with the absolute minimum but still getting error 19.

Looking like a dead CPU or Motherboard to me :/

Any idea's before I order a new board?

Thanks for your help guys.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I've ordered a new mobo which will arrive tomorrow so I'll find out then if it's a faulty mobo.

No water splashes that I'm aware of, I covered all the components with paper towels before draining the loop anyway so any splashes wouldn't hit any electrical components.

I did have a leak at the input of the front rad but it's away from all the other components so it wouldn't have caused any damage.

have you tried putting the sound card back where it was?

No bud, It should boot without the sound card (which Ive tried) and it should boot with it in the bottom PCI-E lane (which I've also tried).

Because of the solid acrylic tubing connecting the two graphics cards it would be a pain to install the sound card back in it's original x1 slot, involving draining the loop, removing the GPU's, installing the sound card, refilling the loop ETC...

If it was an easy job I'd try it but tbh I don't think it would make a difference.

Small update:

I've drained the system and removed the components from the case.

I cant see any damage to the motherboard, caps, CPU socket pins ETC...all seem fine, however the CPU has three gold contacts that are slightly brown, discoloured compared to the rest... Will find out tomorrow it it's actually damaged or just cosmetic.

Oh and I did test the system with different memory but got the same error.

Not much more I can do now until tomorrow.

do they look burnt? slght discolour is usually fine, could try polishing them

No, not really. I managed to remove most of the discolouration with a cotton bud so don't think it was a burn mark (phew!)

I've since tested my PSU with an antec PSU tester just to make sure the PSU is A-ok and it is.

shorting motherboard?

Hmmm... Tbh I'd expect the PC to shut down quickly after powering up if it was a short, isn't that what short circuit protection is meant to do?

I would test it outside the case but don't have a Air cooler for the CPU and setting up the loop outside the case with rigid tubing will be a real pain, though it is something I should test for in all honesty.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I just hope the CPU isn't dead as it's second hand and probably has no warranty :/

it always handy to have a secondhand air cooler at home. weird that there are some discolouration. could it be from condensation? weird tho but it does point to the problem being there so now you know everything else is ok.

Yeah it's a relief that atleast some components still work, though I really have no idea how anything can be damaged/not working, that part remains a mistery, atleast for now.

No chance of condensation as the coolant would have to be colder than the ambient air temp which it can't be as I'm not using chilled water/LN2....

The discolouration is concerning, Crossing my fingers and hoping the CPU isn't dead, will make for an expensive key chain.:(

Another update:

I've managed to test the system outside the case, I used an old 775 Heatsink and just pressed it down gently on the CPU, obviously not recommended but it would keep it cool enough to post atleast.

Anyway it didn't post, got the same error message, error 19. This was with the CPU. Mobo, PSU, RAM and a HD5450, nothing else.

New motherboard arrives between 1:30 and 2:30.

I will keep this thread updated and hopefully I'll be able to post the outcome from my PC this afternoon.

OMG... I just remembered I've had this exact same issue before....

I had to return my previous Asrock Extreme 9 for the same reason..

Here's my E-mail to the Etailor..

"Hi, I purchased the Asrock X79 Extreme 9 motherboard late last year but have only recently had an opportunity to use it as it\'s part of an on-going project. Last week I installed the motherboard in my case, installed a Intel 3930K CPU, 4x4GB of Samsung green eco RAM, two AMD HD7950 graphics cards, a Seasonic platinum 860W PSU and a 120GB sandisk extreme SSD, apon pressing the power button the fans on the coolers, case and PSU will spin and the motherboard\'s debug LED will display \"19\" but it will not complete the post process, also there is no display to the monitor. I have tried the memory in different slots, I\'ve tried only one stick of RAM, different RAM, another PSU, graphics card and SSD, I\'ve also tried testing it outside the case, all of which made no difference. On Friday I ordered another motherboard from yourselves (the same make and model as the original) and the new one has worked fine so I can only assume the original motherboard is faulty in some way or perhaps has an outdated firmware/BIOS that is not compatible with my system. I would like to return the item as I cannot use it, as I have already purchased a replacement from ****** could you please issue me with a refund rather than another replacement. Many thanks. John Cox."

Probably is the mobo then....lol
