help: Please reccommend a CPU for this board ?

What is your budget? If yu want to keeps cost low (guessing that as it is the cheapest s775 board), then you would be best sticking with AMD. This CPU and this mobo are perfect and will work with your current RAM and GPU.

If you want to stick with the Asrock board you linked to, if you want to go for a quad core get this, if you want to keep costs low and get a decent dual core - get this (45nm chips don't seem to be supported). My recommendation is that if you want to go intel, spend a few quid extra and get a decent board like this (or get this killer board for a bit more again).

awesome info thank u :)

but just realised my g card is AGP :(

guess not much choice with that is there, not sure i can afford to buy another card at the moment

Sell your old card as they are worth a fair bit second hand and get a nice PCI-E board....

Personally I would look at AMD CPUs & Mobo then...

aye that killer board u linked looks pretty cool :)

i would prob go with the mobo and chip mentioned first thats seems good as well :) then time to shop for my first pci express g card lol

So this mother board would be ok with that chip

Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 AMD 770 (Socket AM3/AM2+) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 550 3.10GHz Black Edition (Socket AM3) - Retail

that quad chip costs a lot dont it tho...

You say that your GFX card is AGP, but that AsRock mobo has both AGP and PCIe slots, so you could continue using your current graphics card until you can afford a new PCIe card...

yeah but seems the sapphire card wont work in an asrock board :( tried in loads but works in others just not in asrock,

works great in abit and asus etc but comp is in standby type mode in asrock :(
