My older computer that I use for the office computer has started to randomly go from normal to garbled screen. The only way to describe it is that its a fuzzy wash of colours like the gfx has frozen. However, this can happen when just idle or when browsing the web etc. The computer parts are only 4 months old as they all got replaced during some random crashing so I completely rebuilt it, but I'm unsure what is causing this new problem.

Could it be a PSU problem, or could it be the GFX card is faulty? or maybe the RAM?

BTW, the comp is on 24hrs as it is running 2 till systems as a server.

If anyone can help me troubleshoot this it would be great as I cannot find anything in the error reporting of windows 7. The only resolutions is to restart the machine via the reset button.

Microsoft Windows 7 x64 Ultimate SP1
AMD Athlon II X4 640
4.00 GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz (9-9-9-24) Kingston Value
ASUSTeK Computer INC. M5A78L-M LX V2 (AM3R2) Motherboard
AMD Radeon HD 6670 (ASUStek Computer Inc)
298GB Western Digital WDC WD3200AAKX-753CA1 ATA Device (SATA)
HP DVD Writer 1070d ATA Device
Realtek High Definition Audio

Thats the readout from speccy and the temps are: cpu 26c mobo 41c and hdd 34c and gfx 34c at idle

If it happens after a while it could be heat related, so check that the fans are all working and that dust isn't coating the blades making them less effective.

Make sure the HDMI, DVI or vga cable you are using works, It may be not plugged it all the way or does not work as it should. There would be nothing of this in the error report so my first bet would be on this ! Hope this works and good luck J

Thanks guys, i've ripped the fan out and cleaned it and applied new paste, and also replaced the hdmi cable with the one from the sky box! My next step will be to check all drivers as stated, and we'll see if this happens again!

If it still does not work you could revert back to a previous driver :). If think it is the drivers ! Im sure with the new hdmi it will work !. Also might be worth checking if the mobo is in the right place sometimes if you have not put all the screws in the port pannel can keep the hdmi from going in 100% good luck and let us know !
