im not too sure if this is the right thread. my apologies if it isnt. i have looked around and cnt find anythink.

what is a sm bus controller?

also i pluged my device into my front usb ports this last night and they did work. so i left it off over night. not even plugged it and this mornin it does the same. it says usb device malfunction cannot reconise it.

could ne 1 help please

Have a look in "device manager" and see if "SM bus controller" has an exclamation mark against it. That usually means no drivers have been loaded for it I think. This controller is enabled when the drivers available on SP2 are loaded. If you've already loaded SP2, then try to update the drivers whilst in device manager, that should get rid of the exclamation mark.
Then try to use your usb devices.

SM Bus controller is one of the drivers that will be installed either with Windows or with the motherboard support/driver CD as part of the chipset driver package.

it doesnt have an exlamation mark its a question mark but neway, its loacated under other devices. i have a had it running for ages and did a system restore the other night and now it just says *** i sed before. will update the driver using the motherboard cd ( thats right isnt it?) will have to do it later as im at work at the mo. cheers for the reply
