Help Please - Sons PC Dead

Wonder if someone could help please?

My son was playing on his PC (my old gaming rig) and suddenly it went off. Trying to turn it back on now it powers on for like 3 seconds the fans spin then it goes off again, this keeps repeating in a loop.

Not done anything to the PC recently except replace the hard drive about 4 months ago after the old one blew.

PC is a E6750 (not overclocked), Abit IP35 Pro mobo, 4Gb Corsair Ram, 1Tb hard drive, Gainward 8800GT GPU.

Ideas anyone?

checked all power connectors? try and reset the cmos or try a different psu

Could be the PSU, how old? make?

Sounds like it could be bios settings, Remove the battery from the mobo for a few seconds and put it back. Try another boot. Strange that it would randomly happen though, also most motherboards will default after several failed boots.

This happened to my old family pc, one of the capacitors on the mobo had blown I think.

clear cmos seems to have sorted it for now. PSU is an old Tagan 550w modular model.

May have overheated to inside is full of dust.
