hi there,

i'm trying to combine a mixture of old pc parts to upgrade my brothers PC.

so far everything works together but when i install an Asus EAH4350 SILENT/D1/1GD2/A to the system and boot the pc, i get a black screen upon bootup and nothing more.

the pc system i am using is a Compaq Presario SR1000. Product number: SR1519UK.

i think the problem could be the lack of power as the system only packs an Enermax EG365AX-VE(G) S FC A 353W power supply. i don't know if this is enough power to boot the system along with the 2x 512mb corsair RAM i added to the system.

could anyone confirm to me whenever i am right with my assumption about the power supply or is it something else i am missing? if i am right with my assumption could you then help me out with how to calculate how much Wattage my system will need please so i can work out what power supply replacement to get?

Cheers!

Does the machine have an onboard video chip?

It could be as simple as the bios is set to use the IGP instead of the radeon card. There is an option within the bios to change which video card is used on boot (onboard/AGP).

Hope this helps
