help please with overclocking my cpu

intel core tm i5 2550k 3.40ghz is my cpu and was wondering how easy it is to overclock and what limit can this be pushed to ? my system was purchased a few years ago but still very fast at running all recent games,im purchasing the cv1 oculus rift and dont fancy changing my board and cpu but the cpu failed the test on oculus and i need to upgrade or overclock my cpu if i can get away with it

this is my motherboard - asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3

never done an overclock before so im looking for some advice and help please

hi,i dont actually know but my system was purchased from overclockers a few years ago and was called a spinasaur,the cpu cooler is black with 2 silver or white lines on it with 2 black pipes connected to it

What are your current max temps?

I am sure I have read a 4.5ghz OC for 24/7 use is safe as long as the temps are monitored closely for the first few days whilst benching/gaming etc:

x 32 multiplier non turbo
Roughly 1.26 vcore

Although don't jump straight to it considering the silicone lottery so wkr your way up the multipliers seeing what you get, temps etc

hi,ive never altered anything in the bios so i take it that everything will be default,never attempted any overclocking before m8 so im pretty clueless about this stuff

ive looked at the max cpu this board can take & its not good enough for the cv1 & dont fancy having to replace my board & cpu at the moment,im spending my dough on the cv1 & if i can get away with an overclock then full steam ahead !!

What would prob be easier is a guide on what bios settings to change. I know these screenshots might be slightly different but the options should be roughly the same

hi m8 yes that pic looks the same setup as my bios,will have a read through that,thanks for ur help m8 & im in edinburgh aswell
