Hi I know very little about water cooling but its time I upgraded and learnt. I currently have twin gforce 460 and i7 CPU which I would like to water cool. I am struggling to make a start what I would need etc. I would be happy to buy a new case if required

Many thanks for any help people could give.

which I7 CPU? They are not all born equal in terms of heat. As a general rule I would allow one 120mm radiator for each component, plus one spare... so to cool 3 components you would want a minimum of a 360mm (triple) radiator. Preferably a quad radiator or two 240mm rads but for the components listed a single 360mm would probably be fine.

I could explain it all here but for advice on which components you need for a loop the best place to look is this thread:

There is no point w/cing gtx460s.
I doubt there's any full blocks for them so you'd need core-only blocks with fiddky ram sinks etc.

Imo you should sell the cards, add the money you would've spent on blocks, ramsinks and fittings to that money, and buy a new card.

Oright my concern is that they over heat so I need a cooler. Would that not be the same even if I purchased a better card. Also which card or cards where you thinking of as a replacement.

7950 + waterblock would be my recommendation, those 460's are only worth around £60 each at a push, core only blocks are going to sting you £30+ per block, which unless you plan to carry them over to a new card is not worth it.

I'm with optima, try get £130+ for the 460's and put it towards a new card and block.

Sold my 460's for 80 each including postage on ebay a few weeks ago, but they where modded with different coolers, You would get about 60- 70 each as paul says inlcluding postage. Or sell on the MM, which is defo a safer option i would think.

Hi I could sell them and get a new card. I would like to stay with GeForce as I like them as a make. Would one msi GeForce gtx 680 lightening be better than two GeForce 460gtx palin sli?

My CPU is i7 950 btw

By a long shot. Though if money's a little tight something like the evga 670 ftw with a 680 block (it's a 680 pcb) would come within 10% of the performance of a 680 while still being faster than your 460 sli setup :)

First game i tried with it was crysis 2, its automatically set everything to ultra. Gaming on a 120 hertz monitor ive never played anything so smooth. Tried loads of games of top settings and its amazing. Will never look back and prob never go back to sli.
