hello:)

This is the plan for my very first custom build.

here is a list of everything i am thinking of buying and there is also a link to the product under the names. (sorry you will have to copy+past the links).

could you please tell me if everything is compatable with eachother.

Motherboard - **B Grade** Asus P5K-E WiFi Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 (MB-241-AS)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BG-315-AS

(i didnt have a clue when choosing this, i need an sli motherboard that is compatible with everything els listed at around £70-100)

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-161-IN

RAM - OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2N1066SR2GK)

PSU - Straight Power 600W ATX2.2 SLI Compliant PSU

Hard drive - Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10000RPM SATA 16MB Cache - OEM (WD1500ADFD)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-069-WD

I already have a graphics card (8800GT OC) and case, so i dont need them. but i would appriciate any advice on upgrades as i am kinda noob at this atm lol

thanks:cool:

;)

are you planning to Overclock?

do you need SLi?

if yes to Ocing, and no to sli then the MB in your spec is a good choice, however if sli is needed then you need a nforce 650i,680i, 750i or 780i chipset based MB, most if not all of which are not the best for OCing a q6600 with. p35 is for crossfire or single nvidia cards

for the PSU, i have no idea how reliable straight power is, but i would try a corsair HX520, it will be powerful enough to power the PC.

the raptor may not be needed as some will argue that certian modern drives are jsut as fast, the forum is split on this.

you could get away with pc26400 ram, this will give you a FSB of 400MHz, giving you a max OC to 3.6GHz with the cpu mulitplier at 9x before your ram needs OCing.

ok thanks for the help. :)

I know u said that SLI boards are not good for overclicking the Q6600, but could you please help me find the best board for the job at around £150

Im not lazy i just dont know what im looking for;)

The reason i want an sli MB is to get a seconds 8800GT and be able to play new games like crysis on high settings and high resolution.

As i have reconsidered, here is another list:

HARD DRIVE - Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 400GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (0A33439)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-031-HI

PSU - Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-005-CS

(should i get the 620w for running 2 cards?)

RAM - Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-108-CS

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-161-IN

Thanks again:)

You chose....B Grade** Asus P5K-E WiFi Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 (MB-241-AS)
this one/

ATI CrossFire Technology
ATI´s CrossFire boosts image quality along with rendering speed, eliminating the need to scale down screen resolutions to get the high image quality you want. CrossFire ignites with the higher antialiasing, anisotropic filtering, shading, and texture settings you desire. Adjust your display configurations, experiment with your advanced 3D settings, and check the effect with a real-time 3D-rendered preview within ATI´s Catalyst™ Control Center to rule your CrossFire system.

I make that crossfire.

Yes i know its crossfire, i did say i didnt have a clue when choosing the motherboard as its my first build.

My recent post says that i need to find an sli motherboard that is good for overclocking the Q6600, and i need help doing so.

Sli is not worth it. 1 single powerful card is always better,. Youd be a lot better getting the new 9800 when it comes out over a second 8800GT. Sli is only worth it if you already have *** best card, i was considerign getting 2x GTX or GTS but desided the motherbaords were to bad.

The nvida motherboards have many many problems with them i would not advice them. If you really wanted one then id advise the Evga 680i, although the 780i's are also avalible now.
