Hey all

Looks like either my graphics card or motherboard has died on my PC, Is there anyway for sure I can find out which part? I don't have any spare parts to test unfortunately. It is 100% not the monitor, I have reseated the graphics card to no avail. I can boot into windows but as soon as i try to do something graphic intensive the whole system crashes. There are 5 bands of vertical pixelation on the screen even during post so it's definately a hardware problem.

That sounds like a graphics card problem. Check the on-boards first though. could you post your spec to see if that will help us spot anything.

I don't unfortunately, no onboard graphics card and no extra hardware to test...basically shafted. I am 90% sure it is the graphics card. I could buy a new one but that is an expensive item to buy if it turns out not to be the graphics card and I don't really have a lot of cash this time of year.

Here is my spec, thanks for helping guys.

Motherboard - Gigabyts 965-DS3P
CPU - Intel Core 2 6600 2.4GHz
Memory - 4GB Crucial Ballistics (i forget what speed it runs at)
Graphics Card - OCZ 8800GTS
Power Supply - Corsair 520W
OS - Windows 7 64 bit

It's an old system I know but it sure as hell runs well for what I need to do.

What Nvidia cards came after the 8 series? I will order a new card but have no reason to spend loads on it so something slightly better than the 8800GTS will do me perfectly.

This is a tad unethical, but you could buy a GPU Online, test it, and if it turns out it wasnt the graphics card you could return it under the Distance selling regulations.

You have 7 days from the day you receive an item you have bought from an online retailer to return it no questions asked, even if you have opened it.
