hi guys,

need some help please despite getting no where myself, ive always had 2 monitors on pc via dvi's but i want to try connect my tv to card via hdmi socket i bought,

i be leave i cant have 3 monitors running at same time which is no problem but i don't know how to turn 1 off and then have 1 dvi working and hdmi tv, picture cloned of course!

tried settings on display but says unable to save settings or disabled 1 and even in ati it just reverts back to 2nd dvi like it cant detect TV ?

please help if anyone can?

In windows 7 (Right mouse click on desktop -> Screen resolution) you should have an option "Disconnect this display" in the "Multiple displays" select box.

Disconnect all but one screen, apply, enable the additional screen you want to use.

Or you can look for an active Displayport to DVI adapter. The 5770 can run three screens, but the third screen must run through the Displayport in order for this to work. The adapter must be active to convert the Displayport signals to DVI signals.

thanks that sounds like an option, the lead i have is 15m hdmi to hdmi lead so if i buy this displayport that will still keep everything hd ?

thanks again fro info

only time today tv showed pc was when i rebooted pc splah window came up on tv and pc at same time but just before desktop loaded there was loads of red lines on tv then it just went off :( !

Yup everything will still be in HD, I'm using a Displayport to VGA adapter myself and it still displays 1920x1080 perfectly. OcUK did sell some but they don't seem to sell them anymore...

dont want to link on someone elses company site but i have looked on ocuk and cant find any :(

is this the right one i need to look for

It's not active, so no. Remove the link as well :p. Also, you should check which Displayport your 5770 have, the full one or the mini one. The one you linked converts a mini Displayport to HDMI.

I would also recommend using a Displayport to DVI adapter to run one of your monitors on, so then you can connect the TV to the card via HDMI, thus allowing you to send sound signals to the TV.

or if he only wants the picture to be cloned on the tv, which he has stated, he could just get a dvi splitter and a dvi > hdmi passive adapter thus saving a few quid?

oops lol dam flu is taking over my soul lol..... mine is 5770

ATI Radeon™ HD 5770 - 850 MHz Core 1024 MB DDR5 DisplayPort DL-DVI, DL-DVI, DisplayPort, HDMI

you can get dvi > hdmi adapters that carry sound as well, ati official ones tend to do this, havent looked it up on whether any others do it. The ATI ones just use some of the unused pins on the dvi connecter or something, been like it since the 3xxx series :D

Or could also use a long audio cable, but then thats an extra cable which costs money and is ugly so would then probably be better off with the active adapter anyway, especially if they have come down in price from the ~£50 when they first came out (haven't looked and cba as im going to bed).
