Hi all

I'm either getting one or the other, but I don't know of anyone who has either card.

The 7970 looks great, but I spotted the following:

KFA2 GeForce GTX 660TI EX OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card.

Is it better to stick with Kepler tech. or go for the AMD?

Just after a few opinions...

Have a great 2013!

Best

I'd go for the 7970 : 384 v 192bit (660ti) memory bus; better performance at higher resolutions and also when AA is applied. The 660ti is a great card actually, it's just way over priced for what it is.

Thanks

Thank you for that.

All of the figures seem better for the 7970 than the 660Ti, I just don't know why NVIDIA cards are so much more expensive.

But when I spotted the 3GB 660Ti I wasn't so sure. There appears to be quite a bit of snobbery around with these cards. Someone commented elsewhere that it's a choice of buying an AMD or an actual graphics card (which is a bit of a redundant comment, really).

Cheers

+1

However, personally,. I'd go for the 7950 WF, I don't think the 7970 is worth the extra :)

Go for a 7950 and bank the change :).

Only a 5% difference between a 7970 and 7950 at the same clock speed.

The 660Ti is pants for the price you have to pay for it.

Yes i have seen a lot of that. You used to get that from the AMD side with the 5000 series GPU's, it seems maybe they have switch sides after-all  :D

Some people get very upset when their favorite brand is (pay more for less) compared with the competition.

It is just pure fanboy snobbery, people like that are best ignored and left to stew in their frustrated rotten juices, they usually do drive themselves bonkers trying to get the attention they want you to give them, such is idiotic tribalism.

The GTX 660ti is a great card, its a very capable card, but not as good as the 7950, the GTX 660ti is a £200 GPU, its not at the same level as a 7950.

Nice interesting comments - Thank you (and to the rest).

The Asus HD 7950 DirectCU II TOP looks like a very nice card, and I can still save about £50 in not going for a 7970. Besides it sounds like AMD will be moving on to the next generation pretty soon. Especially after that Devil 13 (7990) got released - too much money though.

As long as the 7950 can cope with something like Battlefield 3 (on just one monitor) I'll be happy.

Have a nice New Year.

Oh, love the quote as well! A bit like when a woman called Churchill a drunk, and he replied, "You madam are ugly! And I'll be sober in the morning."

The 7950 will eat BF3 as a side dish, i play it on Ultra preset with a 7870 overclocked and it spends 90% of the time boinking off the vSync frame rate limiter, clock for clock the 7950 monsters a 7870.
