hi,
a few minutes before I was fiddling with ati ccc overclock which hung, it restarted ok. then
dreamscene crashed (again)
usually a restart sorts it out.
this time it seems to have taken lots with it
I cant right click on my desktop anymore to personalise any settings
and I cant get the control panel to display anything from the menus button
so I cant get to a restore point
i have tried repairing windows from dvd but it hasnt worked
any ideas welcome
ta

does Windows Key + Pause/Break bring up the system restore bit..?

just re-install if it's buggered

just tried in search, it found system restore, but wouldnt load it.
but i did get to the restore centre via 'my computer' and going up the tree
system restore centre says 'volume shadow copy not working'

maybe the only thing worth having in ultimate will be the 'complete pc backup image'
just want to be sure that is the only option left

can you boot from windows dvd and restore the image (dunno if it works like that, that's how acronis true image works)

I cant create a new user account
dreamscene can be switched on again using explorer, but that still leaves the restore problem and bits of the start menu missing

Turn the PC off and back on again. its probably related to the :

SL UI Notification Service

You can either try and restart this and all associated services or just power the PC off & back on again (if you cannot restart it from a menu that is).

Had issues with this in the past which made the control panel empty. Its because some program you have installed has overwritten a system dll (Nero & earlier Nvidia drivers both cause this).

I've had Dreamscene for well over a year and get the occassional it has stopped working message but that is usually when I install new ATI drivers without pausing it first.
