I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who is having RAID issues at the moment on his new build on a DS3 platform.
Hi all, this is my first post, so bear with me
I am having no luck setting up a raid 0 on my new gigabyte GA 965P-DS3 mobo.
New Machine specs are as follows - all bought last week.
PSU - 700W Tagan TG700-U25 V2
Mobo - Gigabyte GA 965P-DS3
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Cooler - Artic Cooler Pro 7
Hard Drives (x2) - Western Digital 36GB Raptor
RAM - Geil Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400 - £117.49
Gfx card - Evga 8800 gtx full over clock version
My previous dvd writer that I had in my old machine.
Here is what I basically do to install the raid 0.
1. go to mates house, take mobo cd and floppy disk.
2. install raid drivers from mobo cd to floppy (option "e" 32 bit drivers for Gigabyte raid)
3. go home (important part of the process lol)
4. turn on pc, set basic bios to SATA mode enabled and sata control to RAID (turn AHCI mode to disabled)
5. Then press control G to enter raid setup
6. Setup raid for my two 37 gb raptors (both brand new)
7. re-boot with windows xp pro cd in
8. press F6 at right moment
9. wait a couple of mins as it loads basic drivers and then it brings up a screen and waits for me, saying "to install manufacturer supplied raid drivers put floppy in drive and press "S"" I press "s"
10. it displays the four driver options on the floppy 11. I choose the correct one and it carries on (one of the two Raid ones not the AHCI ones) Can anyone confirm the correct one and why there are four options?!
12. It shows me the 74gb partition and says - want to install a new ver of windows here yeah? creat partition and format quick or slow etc. I chose both at different times, to the same end result!
13. It loads for ages, usual windows install, still in the basic dos blue screens tho, nice progress bar, takes about 10 mins
14. It then says, remove floppies, and press enter to restart
15. press enter, it reboots and boots from the windows CD again, bringing you back in the standard first time windows XP install way.
16. I ignore the option to press f6 to install raid drivers this time, itloads quite far for about 5 mins still in dos blue screens then comes up n says, do u want to install windows, do u want to repair an old windows or f3 to restart. I press enter to install
17. It immediately jumps up, Windows cannot find any HDD, there are no hdd's press f3 to quit. Quitting starts u right from scratch again. repeat repeat and again till I was very bored.
Its the fact it recognises the partition, even allows you to fomat it lets you get ages through the setup process, reboots and still crashes out on you half way through install after the reboot.
Is the basic way of setting up the raid correct in windows install?
Boot off xp cd, press f6, have floppy with drivers on it, select drivers, then select raid and partition/format them during the setup, installs lots of files, then asks u to reboot, then goes back as if its a normal start of a setup of XP ( blue screen, option to press f6, etc ) and this time u dont press f6 and it loads tonnes then gives u the option to install new version of windows or recover of f3 quit? Is that the normal process or have I missed something
Any light you guys could shed on this would be much appreciated. Just so you know I installed xp on one of the raptors not in raid mode just to check the machine worked and it did.
Many thanks
