I changed the northbridge fan on my eopx motherboard for a zalman passive heatsink, and after I put it back together I get 'no signal input' on my monitor no matter which DVI port I use...

I'm not sure where to go from here - all the wires seem to be plugged in alright and I cant think of any reason the gfx card would be damaged.

help?

plugged the power back into your gfx card? What about the 4 pin connector on your motherboard?

well its passive, theres no fan blowing the heat away so it'll naturally be hotter, it'll be fine

Surely that's a very brave statement? Especially since chex hasn't defined 'really hot'?

That said, you are very probably correct. When I was overclocking 805's in Abit LG-81's the Northbridge on those ran at about 70C and the PWM ran over 100C. The active cooling on an Abit AL-8 board meant that it ran at about half those numbers to get the overclocks on the same chip. Neither board crashed or was unstable because of the extreme temperatures.

If 'really hot' is under 70C I wouldn't worry at all.

I couldnt find the northbridge temp on speedfan or the epox diagnostic utility...

there was a temp that was 73C in speedfan - that may be the northbridge

sounds a tad warm, best keep an eye on it. If you feel its too hot, try re-mounting your new cooler. If there is no change find a better one!

Thats true!

Generally speaking it will be warmer but 73 does seem a bit hot. Whats your airflow like in your case?

tbh that temp reading on speedfan was around that much even before I removed the fan - I had thought it was a disconnected sensor.

Airflow is good - the case has a mesh sidewall and has a fan blowing air into the case from the side and one on the front (it's an aerocool magic 3-D).

The only reason I figured it was overheating was because if I try to reboot it doesnt make it back into windows without me turning it off and waiting a bit.

I really don't like mesh panels. They kill air speed. Only the air around the fans moves. You could have a big dead-spot somewhere in your case.

the heatsink is *right* in front of the fan, I'll look around for a quieter fan based cooler - in the meantime I've taken the side off and have one of these pointing straight at it
