HELP! Processor not working

UPDATED PROBLEM: Tested it working out on my desk, but when I put the components back in the case, connect everything back up it doesn't turn on?!

OLD PROB:

Hey,

My E8500 arrived and it doesn't seem to be working. I turn the computer on and the CPU fan spins for a few secs then stops. I put my old E6300 back in and everything seems to work, i.e. I can get into BIOS.

What is going on?

I have a Gigabyte DS3P moterboard, 580W Hiper Type R

Sounds like you need a BIOS update

well according to that site you need the F6 bios

CPU-Z will tell you what BIOS you currently have

P965 and support for the E8xxx CPU range has always at best dodgy. From what I've read quite a few people have had problems. What revision of the board do you have?

OK, so I got it working on my desk, updated to F6 BIOS just fine, but when I put it all back in the case, nothing... its like its dead

Ahhhhh, so I take it back out onto my desk, and it is not working, WTF!?

It is like the BIOS has gone back to previous version by itself again...
