What happens if someone forgets their password for a PST file in Outlook 2007?
MS says it's too bad but this guy has 10GBs of mail in there and failure is not an option :(
Of course, the user is telling me they never set a password.

Hmmm - contains a file called mailpv.exe which McAfee immediatley deleted. A few Google searches later reveals this particular .exe to be a little unfriendly!
Original source, Israel.

Is the password not the same as the email account password, or maybe if the account requires frequent password changes, it could still be one of the old passwords?

I've used plenty of things from Nirsoft before and they've been absolutely fine - they make some very handy tools. You could set-up a Virtual Machine and run it in there if you're too worried.

(assuming that's the same one as yours)

Most of the results are 'MailPassView' or 'not-a-virus'. The ones which pick it up as a virus are likely just generalising because of what it's doing.

+1

His tools are always falling foul of AV scanners because most can be used for the purposes of 'good' or 'evil' depending on your motives.
