Hiya

at work we have an ASUS server running Windows 2003 Server, it must be at least five years old therefore out of support. It has two drives configured as a RAID1 array, one of the drives recently failed. I purchased a replacement which I've installed.

The problem I have is I'm not able to rebuild the array. The new drive is listed alongside the array but within the array itself it's showing the old drive as 'Missing'. I've no experience with RAID arrays at all and wondered if anyone may be able to help me rebuild the array. I've taken a few pics which will hopefully make my ramblings a little clearer:

Many thanks in advance

Hi, thanks for looking.

If you look at the third screen shot down, the replacement Seagate drive is listed below the array as 'Free'. But it's greyed out so can't do anything with it. The only options I have are shown in the array settings (screen shot 4), these are 'Delete' or 'Bootable'.

The machine does have 4 drive bays, I'll try the original drive/replacement in one/both of the others.

SMN, what do you mean by 'dd'?

Cheers
Scott

That is a very good point, dives need to be same size or larger. The drive was recomended by Insight as a replacement for the obsolete Maxtor.

I'll ring Insight, thanks.

Insight will take this drive back and we're going to try a 147Gb drive, which is the next one up storage wise. Would the drive need to be formatted to a smaller size?
