Hi

I have just built a new rig, I have the hd 7970 gpu. I was playing a flight sim game and after about 5 mins the screen went black but the sound was still going.
I tried ctrl alt del but nothing happened so did a reset.
Now when I turn the system on I just get a black screen and a red light emitting from the area of the graphics card. I can't even enter the bios.
Does this mean it has overheated.
And if so can it be saved or will I have to send it back to the shop.
My system if off at the moment I will try again in the morning.
This was after I updated the driver form the website.

Tried a reseat of the graphics card? Might not have been fully in the socket and slipped. Also have you tried a cmos reset? The onboard trick is a good idea if you can hear system boot beeps in the background.

Red LED's on the back of the card usually signify a problem.

Check the card is seated in its slot properly.

Check the power cables are connected properly.

You could also try swapping power cables and use different connections on the PSU for the modular cables.

Removed gpu and the red light is coming from the VGA led on the mobo. I am still getting no pic even plugged into inboard. I will try a CMOS reset and if that doesn't work I will try a bios reset cheers

Tried both resets and still getting the red light

Just googled and someone else on here has the same problem as myself

Attach the speaker that comes with the motherboard and see how many beeps, if any, are being given on boot.

I've sent a tech support email to asus so hopefully hear back from them soon but I suppose I should give it a go thanks
