Hello there,

If I chose to buy a monitor which had VGA and DVI-D inputs and had built in speakers will there be sound? Also will the quality be lower due to me using DVI-D instead of HDMI?

I heard that DVI-D does not carry sound only the image? All motherboards come with a built in soundcard don't they? Does this mean there will be sound? I dunno. :S
Thanks for any help. :)

The monitor will probably have a 3.5mm jack on it so you just connect from the motherboards green connector into the monitor using a separate cable.

You'll need a separate cable to carry the sound from the motherboard to the monitor if you're using DVI.

The monitor will presumably have a jack plug for this.

long and short is that VGA and DVI both carry video only. HDMI carries both.
So the monitor should have sound input otherwise the speakers would be pointless.

So i'm going to need to buy another cable as well as the DVI-D cable? :(

Maybe.

The specs for the monitor do say PC audio input, so I assume they either include a separate cable or they have a VGA/DVI cable included that has the extra 3.5mm jacks sort of spliced into each end with enough slack to reach the audio ports.

One of the reviews said it comes with a power cable, audio cable and vga??

Good.

So you just stick a 3.5mm jack into the motherboard sound out and the other end into the monitor.

You said it came with power cable, VGA, and a audio cable, this will be it, a thin cable about the same length as the VGA cable and has a 3.5mm on each end.
