Hey all.

I am fairly novice when it comes to overclocking but I am getting a little down and out over my latest attempts to overclock my i5-4670k. I have always overclocked my cpus to not amazing standards but enough to eke out a good life but my efforts with this chip are proving fruitless.

The best I can get stable is 3.9Ghz which I understand as being quite on the low end. I am currently using an air cooler and the temp's are all good (40 idle going to 64 under load) but anything beyond 3.9 and it's just BSOD's for days. My latest efforts included my i5 @4.2Ghz with a VCore of 1.270 which was unstable even after 5 minutes in Prime 95. I may add that stock voltage is more than ok for 3.9Ghz.

I am convinced I am missing something so if anyone could enlighten me, I would be grateful.

Need to know what motherboard and ram you are using m8.
Also what is your cpus stock vcore?

Odds are you will have to increase the Cpu Input voltage in tandem with Vcore to get stability

Sorry, of course.

The mobo is a Gigabyte G.87 Sniper and stock core is 1.17v. I seem to have had a breakthrough by upping the Ring Voltage & the CPU VRIN which I believe is the Cpu Input Voltage you eluded to. I also went ahead and disabled the C1E, C3, C6 & C7 as well as EIST as per a reputable guide I found on the G.87. Sat at 4.2Ghz right now stable.
