My son accidentally shot my TV with an air soft bb gun, although the damage is quite small its right in the middle so needs replacing. It is a Panasonic TX-L50E6B. I've had it a few years but more than pleased with it.

I quite like the Panasonic range and have a smaller one upstairs too so was looking at replacing it with a 49EX600B. I lose an inch which I don't think I'll notice but expect the quality to be better, I don't currently have any 4k equipment. Can get from John Lewis for £609.

Now the question is do I get that, is there an equal alternative which will save me money or should I not even bother with 4k?

I don't have any opinion or knowledge on other sets/makes but am just posting re: 4K.
I have been thinking about a new set myself lately and think I will aim for 4K purely from a future proofing point of view. I realise 8k and what-not may come in a few years but 4K will be more mainstream soon and will be around for a while so from that point of view I think it's worth Looking at that in a set.

To be fair to him he was just reloading it, clip was out and he must have dislodged a stuck BB when messing about. Total accident.

They in the same price bracket?

Nope. About £2000-£2500. tbh LCD would be a downgrade to your plasma, even though LCD comes along and is ok, I found mpeg compression and lower quality/resolution sources far worse on LCD than plasma. For example SD Sky, or SD movies/TV series. Horrid on the LCD, but passable to excellent on the plasma.

Relations have an e6b (I recommended), the IPS panel and viewing angles are good, but the detail in the dark area remains a bit disappointing (edit: since no detailed gamma adjust) , versus slightly newer et60 I have.

(reposting) the rtings review of next model up ex700, is not so complimentary versus last years model dx750, which I would get in preference if you can find one.
but, like Samsung too, prices go up but the models PQ has degraded versus 2016 models.

I always buy my tech from them, they will beat any price and have the extra 1yr warranty, plus they have a demo room where you can arrange to have the product your interested in set up and have a proper run through

Have a check on AVforums there might be some owners you can ask if you have any questions, best thing is tho to demo the set yourself and make up your own mind

could have a seperate thread on demo'ing but reviews have predominate part in my a/v decisions. (eg. what Vincent has to say)

Did you demo your ex700 against a particular set ?

Even if you have a checklist, given the demo's have limited time, different viewing environment (if you are not typically in the dark), un-calibrated sets, it is difficult to deduce much,
even to the degree that the physical aesthetics and GUI efficiency are the main thing you learn ?

.... without trying to derail thread too much

I haven't got a ex700 i went for the DX802b last year , i love it, i wanted the 902 but with two young kids i didn't want to stretch too far lol. Thats the beauty with richer sounds you get a room to mess about in as long as you want,(move sofa around, lights on/off, watch different kinds of sources including sky, change viewing angles etc) they will come to your house and survey your room and can even help suggest what sets would work best in your environment etc. for someone who doesn't know a lot about which set too choose this is a great service, not like joe blogs in currys trying to sell you what ever they have been told to push that month.

I agree about reviews, but ultimately let your eyes be the judge, i must have spent a good 2-3 hrs demoing before i bought mine

people asking whether I should go 4K or not. If you need a new tv it's a pointless question. All decent brand new tv's are 4K. You cannot get a brand new decent tv that is 1080p any more and it's been like this for 2 years now.

So basically everyone will be on 4K soon enough.
