As I haven't built a machine in a few years, I've been out of the loop of all the latest hardware, but I've done a lot of research over the past couple months and come to the following config. It's going to be used with a Dell 2407 monitor at its native rez of 1920x1200 and hopefully it's going to last me a few years.
When the next round of boards for the conroe come out, I'm going to move to possibly an nforce590 for quad sli, but more likely to something else ready for Vista and a DX10 card next year.
My old rig is pretty much dead, so it's stopped me being able to wait for the new round of boards out in a month or two and simply getting one of them.
I know the arguments for and against the E6600 vs E6700, and the ATI vs nVidia, and also that the PhysX processor is pretty much unproven at the moment; but...
I basically need a board as a stopgap to be resold later, that will fit the 7950GX2 and the PhysX card, and I need the memory to work with it. Alas, I'm a DDR2 noob, and if anyone who knows more than me, which shouldn't be hard, could spec me alternatives to the setup listed below with the reason why, that'd be great, as I see the Gigabyte boards are having some dodgy memory issues.
edit: Just thought, is 1066 memory worth buying if I'm going to upgrade the board later on?
