Help Requested - Ignore this thread - I was being a plank!!

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year to you all :)

Well, I have been putting together a new PC but when the time came to turn it on, things did not go to plan.

The motherboard lights up when power is connected. However, when I press start, the cooler fan starts as does one of the case fans. The q-code monitor just stays at 00 and there is no beep, so I am assuming it is not even going to POST.

I have the following parts:

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VIII Hero
CPU: i7-6700k
Cooler: Kraken X41

I have it on the motherboard box at the moment without any RAM or graphics card in order to troubleshoot it. I have taken the CMOS battery out for ten minutes but that did not do the trick.

I am loathe to take the cooler off to check the pins on the cpu (I was very careful with this step) so wanted to hear if there was anything I had missed before I do this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Did this still happen with the ram installed?

Try with only one memory module in various slots, also you do have the 8 pin for CPU power as well as the 24 pin ATX.

Errrm, time to give myself an idiot award!! This is quite embarrassing - I forgot the 8 pin....

Thank you so much RJC - you have a great New Year :)
