Hi All,

I was hoping you might be able to help with a computer issue I have recently had with a build ~2 years old.

Issue:-

1) Computer will run without issue for an hour or so. Then during normal operation (nothing strenuous) start to become very unresponsive (windows show 'not responding'). I'll be able to interact a little, alt-tab, but everything turns 'not responding' and freeze i'll be forced to hard reboot (as at this point ctrl-alt-del not responsing)

2) Occasionaly after this reboot at bios, the system will stop at "Detecting IDE drives..." for a short while then power down. On restart then works fine. Not sure if this is related.

My question is what is causing this. PSU, Memory, Motherboard, HDD?

Steps I have taken:-

  • Removed GPU & use on-board graphics - problem persists
  • Ran MemTest this evening for ~3.5 hours - no errors
  • Ran a SMART test on SSD- no issues
  • Monitored temperatures - all looks ok

In my mind this leaves the PSU, Motherboard or maybe SSD as cause, but unsure what to do next to diagnose issue, or uncertain what is the most likely cause.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Full Spec:-

  • Sugo SG08 with 600W Custom PSU
  • Gigabyte H67N-USB3 Mini ITX
  • I5 2500k
  • 8GB Corsair Vengeance
  • 256GB Crucial M4 SSD
  • MSI 2GB 6950 (currently removed)

Thanks again
