Dear All,

Like many of you over the years the number of PC’s/ laptops/ peripherals with network connectivity at home has increased with an increasing demand to share everything with everyone!

Back in 2005 I purchased a Netgear DG834GT which up till now has served its purpose very well with the exception of a few minor glitches. However, 10 years after my first computer my home network has grown in size to:
2 desktops;
3 notebooks;
Brother 5250dn (laser monotone);

In addition, I am awaiting delivery on the following items:
Xerox Phaser 8560DN (laser colour);
Synology DS-209J;
Thecus N5200PRO;
Sony PlayStation 3.

The notebooks are all connected wirelessly and I only have 1 port free router as the 2 desktops and Brother printer are connected via ethernet.

My question/s to you are as follows:
1. Will the switch be adequate for these needs or should I consider getting a business end switch e.g. Netgear GS108/ GS116?
2. Is it possible to still access the printers/ NAS drives from the wireless notebooks if they are connected to the switch?

I don’t think I have made question 2 very clear. I think what I mean to ask is that if the switch is connected to the router, will I still be able to access the other devices connected to the switch from the notebooks?

Thanks for having a look people!

Q1, yes it should be... that is if you have the spare RJ45 slots
Q2, yes, as long as there all on the same network you may team as many swtiches & devices up... they will all communicate ;)
