Hi Guys,

Just installed the BOINC client on one of my Xeon HP servers I have lying around. The server is running ubuntu 12.04 and I am connecting remotely with BOINCManager. I'm having issues with wu's going straight to computation error as soon as they start, here is a dump of my log:

Here is the output for the first unit it tried to crunch.

Hi guys,

Problem solved, the version of boinc in the repo has issues so just installed the latest off their site.

Thanks
B

Thanks, i've been in and out of DC since before BOINC but i've never had any serious hardware. Just bought my first of hopefully many 470 GTX's so can hopefully contribute a modest amount :D

Allways good to welcome a new member to the team stay long and prosper :D

Hey guys,

So I've finally got my 470 GTX up and running in windows and its been crunching away fine. Just a quick question, are their times when there aren't any CUDA wu to crunch? Just had a spell of maybe 2-3 hours were the gpu wasn't working on anything?

Thanks
B

Hi B
There's normally plenty of gpu tasks depending on how you have set up your seti preferences. You can choose from a 3 7 or 10 day supply/cache if i remember rightly just go to your account and its in computing /seti preferences.
If you have a 470 then it may be worth your while running 2 tasks per gpu depending if you have it overclocked or not.
Seti and comms go down on a tuesday usually for a few hours for maintenance but other than that there should be plenty of work available :)

Thanks, it was set to 0.1 days, may explain why it ran out of work, just figuring out how to run 2 tasks per GPU.

Thanks for your help!

B

No problem, in order to run more than 1 task per gpu you need an app_info file to work with have you installed lunatics optimised v .40 yet?

Yep, although I was scratching my head on where all the BOINC data was kept, never thought about checking the "Program Data" folder doh! Anyway up and running now is 2 at a time the optimum for these cards?

Cheers
B

Yeah 2 is about as good as it gets on the 4 series, you could experiment a bit but personally i would stick with 2 for the long haul :)
