Hi All,

Looking for some help/guidance to identify suitable components for a Software Editing PC as my usual builds are primarily for gaming. The budget available is £700 but might be able to stretch to £750. All is required is the base unit (inc case) as software/peripherals and monitor I already have.

It's intended use is for Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve. If possible (budget depending) I would also like to be able to run CS:GO or Overwatch.

Any advice welcomed and appreciated, thanks.

a wee bit overbudget, but will play overwatch:
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £788.18 (includes shipping: £12.30)

if you drop your requirement for overwatch (and drop the gpu from a 1050 to a 1030) will be in budget:
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £748.18 (includes shipping: £12.30)

You chose to fancy the right games to keep expense a bit lower than otherwise - CS:GO and Overwatch aren't hard to get good frames with compared to other titles. Still - it's pushing it with a GT 1030. So I'd shop around or ask OcUK if they can price-match in this case. Crucial MX300 275GB is going for £75-ish elsewhere. And a Corsair CX450 PSU (grey label) would provide a tad more confidence with all the rendering needs, plus two years more warranty.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £431.26 (includes shipping: £12.30)

Plus:

  • SSD: Crucial MX300 275GB - £75.97
  • RAM: G Skill Ripjaws 4 F4-3000C15Q-16GRR 16 GB Memory Module Kit with Heatspreader - Red - £185.24
  • or (if you want 2x8GB instead of 4x4GB)
  • Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR4 3000 MHz C15 XMP 2.0 High Performance Desktop Memory Kit - Black - £188.23

  • PSU: Corsair CX450 (grey label) - £39.97

  • HDD: Toshiba P300 1TB 7200RPM 3.5" SATA HDWD110UZSVA (Bulk) - £34.96

Total - £770 (and well worth it as you get the 1050Ti with a still quite healthy 4GB video memory for 1080p gaming and considerably faster performance).

P.S. If on a very strict £750 budget, there are B350 motherboards for £20 less. However, that Giga model has nicer sound etc than such, and is worth the extra.

If you shop around you will be able to save quite a lot of money this way. Or ask for a discount from someone if you purchase all components from them. You can ask for a quote this way.
