Help running Steam!

I'm completely new to Ubuntu 12.10 (and Linux in general), so bear with me. I installed Steam yesterday, ran it all, was well. There was an update for the OS and I updated the gfx drivers to the AMD linux betas. Now, when I run Steam nothing happens. In terminal I get this

devrij@devrij:~$ steam
/usr/bin/steam: line 194: /home/devrij/.local/share/Steam/steam.sh: Success
devrij@devrij:~$

So I have no idea what's going wrong.

Any ideas?

I should clarify that I was running the stable flgr drivers before I tried the betas. Apparently they offer some serious performance improvements though?

Ah the Xorg server? more to the point, how do I restart it?
