HELP !! :S

a few days ago my laptop crashed and it displays an error message each time i turn it on, i have a copy of windows 7 and each time i try to install it it gets stuck on the 'starting install' screen, can the hard drive be the problem as when i removed the hard drive it werent stuck on this screen, it moved onto where i select a hard drive but didnt display any because it was removed,

Could be the hard drive, could be the RAM (if you have more than one stick try taking one out), could be the media itself.

Thank you, if I replace the ram with my ram from another laptop to see if that's the problem will it harm the new ram ?

thanks for the help everyone, the hard drive was faulty, i noticed this when i plugged it into my pc and run diognostics
