Hello Guys
Firstly Merry Christmas! :)

So I have been blessed with obtaining a Red Harbinger Desk for my new computer build. I looks great, I have managed to install all the PC components ( for now ) into the desk and now at the stage of connecting the cables. So the issue...
I have my SSD (Samsung evo 850) 250gb/500gb in the right hand bay and my rig in the other. I have ordered SATA cables to connect them together and await for a extension sata cable to be purchased as the ones supplied with the desk are slightly too small. I had read online that the max length of a sata III (6gb/s) is 1 meter, currently roughly looking at my cable trace Its gonna end up being about 1.8m :s

Does anyone know if this will cause data loss or every bad degradation of service?
What are my options? can I use esata? USB3.0?
I plan on using these drives for everything, OS, Games, VM enenvironment, application etc...
I have also read someone has done a test and it didnt make any difference.

Kind Regards and thanks for your help

Hi and welcome to the forums :)

That link shows data corruption with linked cables at 9ft and crippling slow write speeds. You could try a cable of 1.8m, but I really wouldn't trust my data with it. Surely you should just keep the drives and the board on the same side? There seems to be plenty of space to achieve that.

Lovely desk by the way  :D

Hi
Thank you for the welcome. The model of desk that I have doesn't have the ability to store them nicely and securely next to the Mobo board, I don't really want to start drilling holes in it yet. I didn't know if there was any way round this. I was planning of lighting up the SSDs on the side also.
Thank you

Have you got a picture of the layout? I can't believe they'd design a case where the data drives have to be over 1m from the board.

You could mount the board on the right hand side and mount the SSD drives into a caddy?

The only other option is to get handy with the power tools.

Aww man :( That sucks I really don't want to move them :( What is the cons if I was to use USB3.0 with a PCI card? I received some sata->usb3.0 adapters when buying the SSDs?
