Hi
Can the following LCD be saved?
I received the following monitor from my friend, he gave it away free.
Model is: Samsung P2270HD. It has a digital TV tuner in it so its specific model is: LS22EMDKU/xe.
It powers on normally. There is a startup sound (samsung melody), but the picture is like stained somehow. The top 3mm of the display displays normally but refreshs very slowly. If I for example attach the monitor to a computer, I can see my desktop normally on the top but it refreshs it very slow. Also the pipes appear very slow. Everything like is ghosted in and ghosted out.
I thought at first that there is image burn or "persistence image" problem so I ran a screensaver going from white to black for hours. It didn't help anything so I opened the monitor.
I removed the display signal cable from the panels little mainboard and then the whole monitor went bright white, and it had no artifacts left.
So, if it would be image burn, would I still see them even if I remove the signal cabel?
It can't be the power board for the backlights because they work normally.
I also tried to move the, was it 6 ribbons that go to the panel from the small panel mainboard, but it had no affect on the display quality. I read that sometimes those ribbons get loose.
So, is the problem in the mainboard that produces the image and sends it to the panel or something else? I removed the whole mainboard from the case and it has no visible or burnt out components that I could see.
One strange thing there is, I don't know if its just a little hotter than displays are normally, but the upper side of the LCD is quite hot when on. It is hot at the exact location where the small 5cm wide LCD panel mainboard goes near the panel. Maybe it is just designed like that, I dont know.
Here are some pictures.
picture 1: Windows Xp 3d pipes screensaver.
picture 2: display without its case. The cable on the bottom of the picture, goes to a small mainboard that is located under the metal shield thing. No visible damage anywhere or burnt out components. On top of picture is the power box on the right side and the video mainboard on the left side.
picture 3: monitor disconnected from computer
picture 4: in this picture the video cable that you see in photo 2 is disconnected. It is 100% white bright. On the picture it looks bad because I took the photo (like pic 3) from a bad angle).
I first thought that it was a burn in problem or overheating problem that had destroyed the panel but when you remove the signal cabel the picture is bright white so it probably isn't in the panel.
So problem is probably either on video mainboard or the small board that is connected to the panel itself. I have read that if the board that is connected to the panel breaks, it can't be replaced because the connectors are so small so. That distorted image is being sent there from either one of the boards (I think)
I found that replacement video mainboards have been available in ebay frequently and they cost something 40 pounds etc but now there are none.
Does anyone have any ideas? Could I buy a regular video mainboard that is for P2270 monitor and hook it to this? Only problem is that P2270 is 2ms and this is 5ms, so while monitors name is the same, its still a different panel because this has TV in it.
Thanks.
