Under XP do both graphics cards need a monitor attaching to the card?

I have set as per Stanford's instructions, although I don't have a second monitor as I have read somewhere this is for vista setup - correct me if I am wrong

The first client starts no problem the second gives the following error message

"At present your GPU in not supported or you need a current driver. You may wish to consider running our standard client, which you can download and folding.stanford.edu."

I have the same diver for both cards (6.14.11.8120) and I have setup the shortcuts as they suggest in the guide targets for the shortcut are the same but one has -gpu 0 after it the has -gpu 1 after it and they both start in their own respective folders in the applications data (Folding@home-gpu and Folding@home-gpu2)

I can not start the second client regardless of the first client being started or not

Any Ideas why I can start the second client

*edit* mobo is ASUS P5N-E SLI. Cards are not linked with and sli connector

Did you reinstall the driver after installing the second card? If not, i would try that. Otherwise, have you checked the machine IDs in the config? Im not sure if these need to be the different or not for the gpu clients, but it could be worth a try. You could try plugging the second card into another input on your monitor (VGA for example), but i also thought this was just for Vista.

You also need to disable SLI if you have an SLI motherboard. You may also need to disable physx too, both under the nvidia control panel.

SLI and Physix disabled and I have reinstalled the driver for again to be on the safe side - ran from nvidia setup rather than let windows handle it

you DO need a second monitor for this to work (or at least fool the card into thinking there is a monitor attached).

Either connect your second card to your monitors second input (assuming it has one) or make/buy a vga dummy.
Extend the destop onto this 'monitor'
use of the following flag in the config is also required for each gpu:

-gpu x (1st card = 0, 2nd =1 etc)

the following will avoid the driver error message you got before:

-forcegpu nvidia_g92 (assuming your card is a g92 core?) <<<<------- this may well solve your problem

And each client must have its own machine id

Vertica is that the same for a 9800 gx2 card as well
or will the software recognise the two seperate gpus without having to add a dummy load.
reason i ask is i shall soon be getting a 9800 gx2 and replacing one of my 8800gts with it

i dont mean to hijack your thread didgemaster but thought i ask here instaed of starting a new one.

No worries sir-les-mp

I have connected the other card to the VGA of my monitor and both cards are showing as connected to a monitor

where do I use the "-forcegpu nvidia_g92" switch?

you dont need a second monitor with XP.You need to extend the desktop to the 2nd card to enable it for folding.to do this goto display properties click settings click the 2nd monitor and select the extend my windows desktop onto this monitor.

That'll be the problem then
