I've got a linksys wireless network set up at home .. basically got one PC outside which is connected to the internet/linksys router and one in my room with a USB wireless access point

can access the internet in my room fine

am using Windows XP wireless network connection (rather than the Linksys one.. somehow windows doesn't like that!)

I've tried running the WinXP wireless network wizard on my outside PC , saved config on my USB stick and ran it on my room PC but still can't access outside network ...

vice versa too!...

got my folders set to share etc , don't know whats wrong!

please help!

cheers

yes drives are shared

using Trendmicro firewall on the 'host' and NOD32 on the other.. will have to check under firewall settings :)

ok, nothing under fireall settings to suggest that th other pc is blocked and vice versa...

how can i turn on netbios?

Yes encryption key is fine otherwise I wouldn't be able to access internet from my room pc

some progress has been made.. upon closer inspection of the Host Pc's firewall settings (under trend micro) it didn't have the IP address of the gateway or my room pc as a trusted source... I changed that so now it 'trusts' them and I can at least 'see' my room pc on the outside computer (host) .. however I can't access any of the folders since it says I do not have permission (whereas I should since I've shared them all and made available on network!)

here are a few pics of my network setup:

IP CONFIG /ALL on HOST PC

IPCONFIF /ALL on ROOM PC

MY NOD32 CONSOLE SCREEN on ROOM PC (which does not seem to have any firewall settings)

currently I can't see the Host PC from my Room PC ...

any ideas? please let me know if any more pics would be useful :)

you talk about trnd micro firewall settings.

In the next
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8233794&postcount=18 you show us an image of the windows firewall being active.

Disable the windows firewall if you have any other firewall installed.

ok I've disabled Windows Firewall on the PC with Trenmicro but on the other one on which there is no other firewall I've enabled it

one machine is XPhome and other is XP Pro

cheers for the suggestions, will look into them!

Probally yes. XP Home and XP Pro are an awkward mismatch.

To make life easiest...

Make sure both in same workgroup.
Setup the SAME username on both XP Pro and XP Home.
Setup this user account with a PASSWORD - identical on both machines.
(Note - by default, XP Pro must have usernames with passwords for network access.)
Make sure your shares are set for "everyone" to have access.
Address the machines from the Run... prompt using the IP Address as \\192.168.1.101 (As this avoids the mess that is MS Networking)
Read the other thread I linked to above - probally get a few hints there. :)

Also a little question... have you put details into the DNS Suffix field within the network settings? Or your router? I am wondering where the "alshamil.net.ae" is coming from.... Are you actually in UAE? Or is this a typo from somewhere?

cheers for the suggestions :)

yes am in the UAE, hence the al.shamil.ae (its in there automatically, didn't set it up!)
