Hi,

Just trying to set up my FiiO E9.. noob questions:

I'm using it with an ASUS Xonar D2, so I'm using an RCA cable to try and connect the amp to the sound card, but it doesn't seem to be working.

I've got my headphones plugged into the 6.35mm jack, the red and white RCA cables into the back of the E9 and the other end of the RCA plugged into the sound card, but I get no sound output. Which socket do I put the RCA cable in on the sound card? (I've put it in the Line-In)

Am I right in thinking the USB cable is only needed if I have an E7?

Anything else I'm doing wrong? Thanks

Two problems that I can see.

1. The RCA's on the E9 are a pass through to connect speakers. You should be using the 3.5mm line in.

2. It appears you have connected the cable to wrong output on the card anyway. Green is the stereo out, and you have it connected to another colour.

Hi,

If you want to use the soundcard output use a 3.5mm male to male from your soundcards output (front speakers or headphone output) to the E9's 3.5mm line IN.
The USB is if you want to use the E9 as a soundcard.

Hmm, I heard on Head-Fi that using an RCA cable is the best way. I've just tried it with a 3.5mm line in cable (don't know what it's called) and connected it to the E9 3.5mm line in and the green sound card socket. Seems to work that way, is this how it's meant to be setup?

e : ok just clarified above, thank you both.

RCA can't be the best way, as the RCA connections on the E9 are outputs. It isn't a choice.

You've got it setup the only way possible. :)

Looks good. Nice setup. :)

Edit: To answer a question from the OP. Yes the USB is only used if you connect an E7 into the E9.

I have the E9 + E7.

What's said before is totally correct.

USB is for the e7 in dock mode.

The RCA is for line out, I use it for my speakers. It's a great little amp, I love mine goes great with my DT770 + HD25-1 ii.

just bought one of these, found it 68 quid delivered, need it to boost my hd600s for use with an astro mixamp, is it better to use the 6.3 output or 3.5? they offer different output impedance Ive heard

Use the 6.3mm jack if possible. Also have the switch on the back set to low gain, high gain congests the sound.
