Reet. I've just installed a nice new DG834G and all is fine. I'm currently doing an online course which offers various bits of software via a VPN login. I have set up the VPN through Windows and can connect to it fine without any trouble.

I've downloaded installed the software i want to use (Eyeon Fusion, if it helps), and set up an Environment Variable on my PC as per the site's instructions:
You will need to add an environment variable to take advantage of the network licensing:

1. Go to Control Panels:System
2. Go to the Advanced tab
3. Click on the Environment Variables button
4. Add a new system variable by clicking New on the bottom part of the dialog box.
5. Enter the following information:

Variable name: EYEON_LICENSE_FILE

Variable value: [email protected];
Now. When i try to run the software it says it cant find the network licence ("Licence server machine is down or not responding.")

I can see by the VPN connection icon that i am sending data, but not recieving any. So i guess it's a firewall issue. I dont run any firewalls, just the Windows one which i have completely turned off, but this didnt help.

So what can i do in the Netgear's router control panel? The VPN stuff is very confusing (is that to set up a VPN from my machine, or what? ) so i didnt want to play with that. Or is it just a case or opening some ports in the firewall? Either way, how do i do it? The licensing uses port 4505 (it doesnt say if it's TCP/UDP).

Thanks for any help, this is my first time using a VPN so i'm a bit confused, generally :p

which version of the dg834g have you got?

was reflashing firmware today and noticed a line in the 'known issues' bit re VPNs

Hmn good find, but i dont think that's relevant. The router says v4 on the bottom and the firmware is v5.01.01.
You may need to forward the ports in this case 4505 to your internal IP (normally 192.168.x.x)
Good idea. I'm currently using DHCP though. No time to give that a whirl tonight, will report back! So i dont want to play around with any of the VPN stuff in the router config?

Had a quick go at forwarding ports, seen as in my router's CP it lets me reserve an IP for a PC whilst using DHCP. It didnt seem to work though :(

Am i right in that using the address i added in the Environment Variable ([email protected]), i should be able to ping that address? Because although i can connect to the VPN, i cant ping 10.1.20.100 when i am connected. And that's what's supposed to be giving me my licence!
