At my mates house trying to help him with his new SLI setup and we are coming across issues. The cards are in PCIEX16 slots 1 and 2 and are attached with the SLI board (not cable). however when both are in the machine wont boot past bios and then reboots again.

Checked bios settings/MB manual and there is no mention of specific requirements for SLI.

The Nvidea drivers are installed and with one in its fine (using it now). Can anyone give advise as to what is going on?

Thanks.

Lack of power to support both cards? Do either work on their own and in either slot? A lot of motherboards do have limitations on which slots can be used for SLI what is the motherboard?

Andi.

i Bought a new Gigabyte X-79-up4 4-way SLI motherboard a new water cooling heat sink a intel i7 -3820 3.6 quad core a new ddr3 ripjaws Z 16gb 1866 ram two Evga 680 GTX super clocked cards and a 850 watt Galaxy Power supply that was previously running two 8800GT cards.

I'v tried both cards seperatly so they both work i'v tried both PCI-E X16 and it boots no problem, but as soon as i put both cards in both 16X slots and bridge the cards it reboots after the bios.

Count the slots from top to bottom, top being 1, bottom may be something like 7, going by the solder joints on the rear of the board, slots 1 & 5 are x16.

sorry so i'm guessing the slot at the top and the slot on the bottom so there the farthest away from each other

Have you checked the manual? Use slot 1 nearest the CPU and slot 5 which is the third slot from the other edge. Usually I find a rebooting system is a power issue.

hi i'v updated the bios the cards currently in slot 5.

slot 1 and 5 work fine on there own but still as soon as i connect the second card straight after bios it restarts. i'm just thinking should i try a new power supply, it is 5 years old but it's been fine with the SLI 8800's that i had before i just don't know if i want to part with £120 for a new PSU and it not working
