But bought a new system a few days ago (see siggy). My old system comprised of a Athlon 4800, 2Gb DDR2, 250gb Maxtor HDD, 512Mb Ati 1900xt and XP Home.

This Vista64 bit system likes to hang when you ask it to do things like explore a cd with mere file text files on it. It took ages to install all my games - although I got a good game of Call of Duty 4.. Wondering if there's something wrong with the PC or just tweaking a lot, any ideas?

Cheers

Is it just when doing things relating to the optical drive then? Might be worth checking out firmware/drivers for that. Also, is it IDE or SATA?

Oh Blimey, I'm not sure about the Otiarc(sony?) drives, IDE or SATA... It's been packed up ready to go back. And it did seem to to be specific to the drives too. Firmware then?

I've just been reading about problems some people were having copying files on Vista systems and finding the progress bar a pain. Maybe just a few isolated cases then? The thing is this whole thing has put me off Vista totally, I'd rather just have XP with it's old problems :)
Cheers
