Hi all,

Scenario: Multiple laptops are loaned out for demo purposes, when they are returned they have always been played with, icons changed etc...

Is there a piece of software that can be used so that every time Windows boots, the icons on the machine are set to as they should be?

I know the machine could be imaged each time, but if there is an option to just turn the machine of and on again and everything is set back to where it should be that would be great.

Thank you for any help.

I was involved in a project where we have a similar issue, IIRC, they used a script to put everything back to basics.

They had the script in the root of C:, the clean folders/locations in another DIR and then would overwrite the changed with the clean folders.

That probably doesn't help!

It's a shame MS discontinued SteadyState, it was perfect for this scenario. It never supported 64bit or Windows 7 anyway though, iirc

e: Thinking (typing) out loud again :p Sorry to be of 0 help

e2: Have a look at Reboot Restore RX, seems to do similar to MS SteadyState. Never used it so can't vouch either way

Aye - never understood why it wasn't updated as it was absolutely invaluable in stopping morons bringing back buggered up laptops every other day.

Deep Freeze is the only thing that I'm aware of that's going to achieve what you want.

Either that or change the user profile to a mandatory one. It depends how much you want to roll back. A mandatory profile will prevent any changes made to anything to do with the local user profile being saved. It won't stop new software installations still being there for the next session etc.
