Hi all

Not been here in a while, PC is borked and I need some help to diagnose...

Was watching a film in PowerDVD, when the machine froze... (this has happened a few times recently)

I rebooted several times and each time just when the machine had finished booting into windows and loading all the junk the machine froze again... I've played around in msconfig for ages with no joy and now it won't boot into windows at all just freezes while booting.

It will however boot into safe mode without any problems whatsoever, so i'm a bit stumped to be honest...

I did try PowerDVD in safe mode, it starts to play but then crashes with this error message "TheTV Out port of your display card is not working properly." Would PowerDVD have the drivers etc required running in safe mode though?

Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

My first guess would be gfx card based on the error message and the fact that it gets so hot you could fry an egg on it's case!

Try removing the overclock and and run mem test to check for any problems on your ram.
Check your hard disc manufacturer for any diagnostic software for your disc.

Hi m8

yea, i removed the overclock last night... all at default settings currently.

I didn't see any point running memtest or checking the HDD's as it's been running stuff in the background in safemode for the last 10 hours or so without any issues...

Those double cards are more problematic from the start and easily run hot which could break things or soldering.

If lowering hardware acceleration setting helps then that's strong hint to failing graphics card.

Thanks dude, didn't know why I didn't think of that... but you know what they say... 2 minds are better blah blah... :p

It now works, problem solved... well kinda except for the fact that my gfx card is now borked  it's not the first time either, it has been RMA'd before...

But that's the very last time I buy an Nvidia card, the last 3 ive had have all been rubbish and had serious problems.

Anyone know what kind of warranty you get with Asus gfx cards, I might try and RMA it again?

Failing that, whats the best current card I can buy for less than £100 as i'm skint :(
