I'm on XP pro, and my ram usage is fine, until I try and play football manager and surf the net at the same time... then my ram is slowly eaten away... from around 500mb free to 10mb free, I have 1gb of ram. What could be causing this? Surely football manager and mozilla together don't use around 500mb?

What version of football manager are you using?

I know that 2009 uses a lot of RAM depending on database size. What size database are you using?

BTW I don't play the game but my brother does and i know it can take a bit of fine tuning to multitask football manager on 1gb of RAM

Depending on how many tabs you have open on firefox it can increase quite rapidly. Found recently firefox using around 200mb when I run it.

3 tabs, is ie 7 any better?

IE 7 is harder to monitor because it's more integrated into Windows. In other words, with Firefox you have the process in task manager, and I think that's pretty much it. But I've heard that for IE, there's the memory for the IE process, and then there's additional memory in system processes that you can't necessarily tell is to do with IE.
Either way, you'll get far better performance by grabbing yourself another GB RAM while it's still cheap.

How many instances of IE are in the task manager with no browser open? You shouldn't have any with no browser active, If you open IE and get two instances then you have a virus.
