I've just installed a new SATA DVD/RW drive and now my computer won't boot. When I turn it on the fans all start up and I can hear it spinning up the HDD but when the GPU fan starts it usually goes to 100% for a second or 2 then goes low but now it doesn't and I've got nothing on the screen so I don't know wether it's posting or not.

I've removed the new sata drive and still nothing so I've taken out everything else too - the IDE drives as well as the sound card I had to wiggle to get to the sata connections on the motherboard and im still getting nothing.

I've checked every cable I can and they all seem to be in fine, as are all the cards etc.

Any ideas of what to do next or what needs replacing?

Cheers guys

I've just stripped everything out of the case and built it up on my desk with only the basics in there to see if it would boot and I'm still getting nothing. I'm guessing either the motherboard or GPU has gone but I've got no way of finding out which it is :(

I had a similar problem with my 8800GT.

Had to RMA the card, 100% constant speed and no boot usually = faulty card and or lack of power.

Try booting without the GFX card, and with speakers plugged in, and see if you hear the windows sound... if you do, its your card

Sadly I've got several users on there so it won't just boot straight up and play the sound :(

I've got it running at the moment and the num lock and caps lock buttons on my G15 light up but not the back light on the keys which usually happens as windows loads to the log in screen.
