Hello people!

Ive always been a PC man and never really had the need for a laptop much until now as im moving in with my GF and the PC has to go! :(
Current PC spec is:

C2D 6300
1GB RAM
160GB HDD
GF 7600GT graphics card

I'd like a laptop that will be as good as my PC as im very happy with the speed and how well it runs vista and some older games etc. Ive looked around and although I can compare the CPU/RAM/HDD I have no idea what graphics cards I should look out for that would be as good as mine. I dont play the latest PC games etc as I have an Xbox 360 for my games now but a decent rig is still preferred, have a budget of £600.

Unfortunately, for £600 your looking at a laptop with integrated graphics, which will be rubbish at playing games. If I were you, I would look into a second hand laptop. Take a look at some used Dell XPS laptops, £600 should bag you a XPS M170. Good luck.

why not try zepto laptops they have decent graphics for good money

£680 gets you

14.1" WXGA+ screen 1440x900
Intel® Centrino® Duo technology
NVIDIA® Geforce 8600M GT w/ 512MB
Weight only 2.35 kg
Built-in Bluetooth®
3in1 cardreader

also look out for macbooks if you only want to do the usual but not hardcore gaming (as it has on board gfx). I have a 2.0 core duo macbook and it more than fulfils my needs, I also run HD files of it onto my HDTV, proper powerful lil thing it is.
This was coming from a x2 4400+, 2 gig g skill zx, x1900xtx....the works.
I also have 360 to game on.

Hmmm, my options are limited then! Right change of spec/budget! :o

Budget of £1000 provided I can get it on buy now pay Jan 08 or somthing

17" widescreen
C2D CPU
GF 7600 or better
1GB RAM
7200rpm HDD

looked at dell ones but what else is there thats as good or better than them?

Thank you for helping me here!

Have you looked at the Rock notebooks? Dell are probably your best bet for a decent priced 17" notebook (M1710). There's also the Asus G-series, although 15.4" only - they're aimed at the gaming enthusiasts. Notebook graphics are incomparable to desktop graphics.

you will be very lucky to get 7200rpm drives in lower priced laptops
most company's put 5400rpm drives in to help battery life

Yeah I realise that now :(. As the laptops are using the PCI-Express for graphics I wonder if it would be possible to strip them down and swap the cards for other mobile cards in a year or so?
