Beat this rig:

Code:
AMD Athlon 64 4000 Dual Core Processor
Microsoft Windows Vista Premium
1GB DDR RAM
160GB Hard Drive
Multi-Format Dual Layer DVD RW Drive
nVidia GeForce6100 Graphics
9-in-1 Media Card Reader
6 USB Connections
2 PCI Slots
19" Widescreen TFT Monitor

£524.98

This PC will be for inlaws, but they are pricing up machines on a competitor site *spit* - seeing as I built my own using bits from OCUK, I fancy building another for them.

Unfortunately when I spec machines, I tend to see bits id fancy and end up pricing up some gaming machine thats overkill.

So please from an unbias situation, could someone beat this price (all-in) with parts from OCUK.

*Background*
Machine will primarily be for internet / work and will require an OS and Monitor.
Leave them room for upgrades too.... ;)

Nearly done it..... will post a pic for you in a sec...

£521.54 without a card reader, or £533.27 with one.... if you don't need one though i can hit the budget with a Core 2 Duo system.

As said its over due to the card reader, but remove that and its slightly lower... ;) or you could go to an even lower card, your choice...

Albeit you don't need AGP on the mobo, but that board fit into the spec a lot better, you don't have to use it... ;)

Agreed, but you forgot the card reader and changed the version of Vista.

It definately is a better spec though, i just tried to stick to the previous spec where i could, as i know how parents can be when you change things, they think they're getting something worse...... or you spend ages explaining the difference, lol.....

I think the 7600 is overkill for internet use though.... drop that for a lower card and you can fit in the card reader and still hit budget. Personally go Liteon for the DVDRW to, if the pioneer is anything like a NEC it'll suck...

Don't know how i missed that mobo though, its defaintely better and like 1p more, lol..

P.S. Thumbnails really help keep the thread tidy and short, much easier reading.... imageshack even gives you the thumbnail link... ;)

nice replies - thanks :)

have got an improved budget through of 750 :D - dont know if that needs maxnig, but gives some leeway on a few parts

any advances on specs will be welcome, in the meantime ill spec something up based on those already listed

much appreciated

Bump the Vista upto premium again, get a better quality PSU and Case, then i'd leave it at what matty specced, and of course add Card Reader.

No point spending extra money just because its there, especially for their uses, i think it would be wasted to be honest, so just improve the areas that could do ideally with improving, as said...

When people see a PC for sale in a shop these days they'll see all the rave about Vista, he'd have a harder time explaining to his parents why they shouldnt get Vista, and its really not that much extra, why not?...
