Been looking around at reviews and the like for a new gaming rig. havent upgraded for about 2yr and would like the new 1 to last abit.

always been amd fan, so first looked at 6000 chip asus crosshair. think thats out the window now, as reading though here e6600 maybe the better.

board EVGA nForce 680 but not sure. dont want to spend any more than that on a mobo tbh.

mem ocz sli 8500 stuff or Crucial Ballistix 2GB

gfx 2 8800gts 640 sli. ready for dx10 games that heard use a lot of gfx mem. should get better performance than just 1 gtx. for not much more cost.

changing me w/c a little form 12mm os, 240v. to 1/2" tdx 12v D5 pump.

psu Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W already ordered. good price should last for a while. has the power for now and next upgrade. hope

looking at all the reviews. posts on here, has just about battered my head. donno whats going be best for the lay out to last a yr or 2.

No point in getting 2*640 GTS's.

SLI is nothing worth raving about in most games, just get a 8800GTX.

The E6600 is a good choice, coupled with some ballistix and a decent mobo (im looking at the EVGA nForce 680 for my setup) you're lookin at a winner.

The PSU might be a bit overkill though :P

As mentioned above, SLi is a waste of money and time. For the few extra FPS which aren't even noticable and hassle of setting it up you might as well put the money towards a GTX.

You need to be looking at a PSU around the 500W mark. This would allow for a moderate overclock and high-end system.

hmm so 2 640's aint going see much more performance in dx10. thought it might of been 1/2 the speed more, than a single gtx. o well

psu might be abit overkill. but nice to have the power than not enough. me old enermax 500 had done me well right from amd 2400 or before,up till 3200winny that have at the mo. been that long.

as for the mem 5300 or higher , planning on getting big oc, something that will rince the nuts off a 6000x2 amd that was looking at in the first place.

btw this will be my first intel base pc. is there any thing should watch out for on install/oc . alittle differant than amd's so i beleave.

Installation is pretty much the same. AMD and Intel builds are the same. I'd get an E6600 and a Noctua NH-U12F. Get a Corsair 520W PSU or something around the 550W mark and that should allow a great overclock and more than enough power on the rails for GPU and other components :)

cheers for the reply's

at the mo on water, just changing block/rad/pump.Didn't really want go back to air. thanks for the thought tho. on that note any idea when D5 pump back in stock?

getting somewere now. the board and mem going to be ok or i'm going be pushing it bit to far, going try get 3.5ish o/c or more stable. or should i spend more on higher spec mem?

EVGA nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
orEVGA GeForce 8800 GTX ACS3 SILENT 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
if poss the latter as there rma seems to be great.
