Thanks guys,

Hi there,

Based on that FX4100 spec you have ~£320 (inc. delivery) to spend, would that be correct?

Your spec doesn't include an operating system and hard drive, do you already have these parts covered?

As for the selling threads on this forum, unfortunately you need 180 days registered and 1000 posts made to get access (see here).

Olivier renault's spec is a good one - as it includes a much better 21.5in 1080p monitor and the AMD Llano has a half-decent GPU with 320 shader cores (the HD 5450 in the oringinal spec only has 80 shader cores).

I would also agree with Warecast that if you can afford the extra for an i3 2120 system then it would be well worth it. If you need to get the cost down even further then you could look for a second-hand HD 5770 for ~£50 - this is a solid graphics card (though not on the same level as the GTX 460) and also rather good value.

yh i reckon i can get together around £350- £400 all together which needs to include tower, monitor keyboard and mouse etc. i already have hdd here and can sort out a os :D

Actually, that Llano he specified is a triple core - and the onboard graphics card it uses is roughly three times faster than the HD 5450. Therefore, for a low-cost gaming system it is a better choice.

The Bulldozer is not very popular because it does come with many cores - but each of these cores are relatively slow compared to the competition. For example here is a review which compares the FX 4100 Bulldozer Quad core with the i3 2120 dual core (which costs about the same) in a range of tests.

its not about the number of cores these days, instead its whats inside them :)

the Llano's IGP is more powerful compared to ntels offerinds, this allows you to play games at playable frame rates without having to buy a GPU.

i really have a lot to learn :/ i need to get money together and try and get the best system i can! i honestly thought the fx 4100 was better than a i3 :/ now its a matter of saving up for this :D

loving the spec of the i3 system tho!

been doing some research and i think ill be going with the core i3 :D seems it kicks the fx 4100 bum :D which im suprised about haha. now the graphics card is whats bugging me! i cant tell which is a good one and which isnt!

Here is a graphics card hierarchy chart - it shows how different graphics cards (from different manufacturers and generations) compare to each other in terms of gaming performance.

For playing modern games I wouldn't recommend going for a card any lower than the level with the 8800 GT and HD 4830.

if you are looking to buy a second-hand graphics card with a relatively low budget then a HD 5770 or HD 6770 (they are basically the same card) is what I would go for. If you want to spend a bit less then I would look for a HD 5750 or 6750.
