HELP: SQL Triggers

Can anyone help with an SQL Trigger?

I have a table which has a mandatory field and I want to make it conditional, so that it is pre-populated if another field is 0 or <0, but I have no idea where to start.

Put a default in that always prepopulates it, then in your UI supply some other value if needed.
