HELP Stuck on loading screen (behalf of MooSey_UK)

Hello all, I've had a very panicky MooSey on the phone to me as his PC has gone all wrong

He's asked me to post here for your wealth of knowledge to help bail him out

Here goes

Booted up all ok tried to look at one of his hard drives & got an error message & the standard windows XP end this program now pop up. Did so & got an other message saying illegal action going to lose all data. It gave him his desktop back but no icons.

He can't get it to start up in safe mode, just hangs again at blue bar. Turned off & back on, no joy just hangs at loading screen with blue bar moving now & then. He's reset CMOS & BIOS back to standard still no joy.

POST seems ok, he's in the process of swapping ram & pulling his hair out.
Does anyone know if this is likely to be hardware or XP corrupted

Any help would be gratefully received thanks

Sounds to me like windows has made itself go boom, has he got an XP disc about to run the recovery console with? Something as simple as doing a CHKDSK \p can fix a hell of a lot of stuff.

Thanks for advice Zefan,
he's disconnected his HD with the paging file on & using his emergency back up on another drive. And can now get on to his desktop & beginning to check on whats been corrupted.

Fingers crossed he'll be ok now
