Help System Crashes?

Hi Guys,

Bit of general question I know, but I don't know where to start.
My system crashes but only when im playing online poker:confused:

I am running windows xp with an intel duo core 2 cpu [email protected] with 2Gb of ram. I wonder if someone has any idea where to try and solve the problem first. I have defragged, removed & reloaded the software and deleted all cookie's etc. Hope someone can help.

Post up your system spec using dxdiag, check the CPU and memory usage idle and when you load up poker, do memtest, core temp to see if there's any overheating etc.

Thanks for the replies. There isnt a cpu usage or over heating issue. Not sure what you would call the type of crashes but the first 1 was a blue screen and since then they have all been just a black screen with the no signal being recieved message and everything locks. The reboot button wont work at this stage and I have to power down and restart with the usual message "your disk needs to be checked for errors etc etc"

If it just goes black, it could be your graphics card that's the problem. Remove the drivers for your card and install the very latest ones from online. See if that makes a difference.
 
Thanks for the help chaps. I have reloaded graphic card drivers and defragged/cleaned the hard drive but still crashes. I think it might be time to upgrade with a mobo bundle and new graphics card. Any suggestions? Thanks again, Ian.
 
I would personally steer clear of new hardware just now, as your crash is so specific (only when playing online poker?) that it kinda points me away from a hardware fault of any kind, more of a software fault. It could even be your poker software, conflicting with something else in your system.

Have you run various stress tests of your machine, such as Memtest, to see if it's stable under a constant heavy load?
 
No problem mate. Daft question time - have you uninstalled and reinstalled your poker software? If it's only crashing while using it, it could well be a corrupt installation. Remove it, download the latest version and install that. It wouldn't hurt to try :)
 
yes tried that too. The poker room tech's advised the same and this problem has them scratching their heads too. I am begining to think it might be the graphics card or RAM that cannot cope with all the graphics and goings on in the internet poker room enviroment as this is probably the hardest workout they ever get.
 
That's why you probably need to stress them out in other ways to see if you can replicate the problem. Memtest will test out your ram, while something like 3D Mark 06 will really put your graphics through their paces. If you can run through both of them without problems, my guess would be the poker software.
 
Thanks Davey, I will download both and give them a good workout. Im sure this is a stupid question but do I save the Memtest files to a floppy and boot with that floppy in?
